§ 5-1-3. Traffic bureau.

  • (a)

    The police department is hereby designated as a traffic bureau pursuant to the provisions of Sec. 9.2 of the city charter.

    (b)

    The director of police services or his designated city agent is authorized to accept a plea of guilty and to otherwise handle the following violations within the city:

    (1)

    Unlawful parking in a restricted handicapped space;

    (2)

    Parking over the specified time limit;

    (3)

    Parking during restricted hours where official parking control devices are posted;

    (4)

    Parking within 25 feet of an intersection (N.C.G.S. 20-162);

    (5)

    Parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant;

    (6)

    Protrusion beyond designated parking space;

    (7)

    Parking within 15 feet of entrance to alley, driveway or private road;

    (8)

    Parking so as to obstruct sidewalk or crosswalk;

    (9)

    Parking within 50 feet of bridge, railroad underpass or overhead bridge;

    (10)

    Parking within 50 feet of railroad grade crossing;

    (11)

    Parking between edge of roadway and property line;

    (12)

    Prohibited parking in city-operated parking lots;

    (13)

    Parking left side of vehicle to curb on two-way street;

    (14)

    Double parking;

    (15)

    Protrusion into street more than eight (8) feet;

    (16)

    Parking of vehicles in excess of three-quarter-ton rated capacity on streets in residential districts in violation of sections 9-3-241 and 10-1-206(a)(11);

    (17)

    Parking in a controlled residential parking area over the amount of time without a valid residential parking permit;

    (18)

    Parking upon a median strip;

    (19)

    Parking in the following restricted zones:

    a.

    Commercial loading zone;

    b.

    Passenger loading zone;

    c.

    Bus stop;

    d.

    Taxicab stand;

    (20)

    Parking in a prohibited zone.
