§ 11-2-31. Financial responsibility.

  • (a)

    No person shall allow the operation of a taxicab within the city without complying with North Carolina General Statute 20-280. In addition to this compliance, no person shall allow the operation of a taxicab within the city unless there is on file with the taxicab inspector a commercial insurance policy, or satisfactory proof of policy, for the taxicab. This policy shall remain in full force and effect during the operation of the taxicab. The policy must maintain minimum commercial liability limits of $50,000 per person/$100,000 per accident/$50,000 property damage.

    (b)

    Every driver of a taxicab being operated out of the city shall carry and produce to any requesting law enforcement officer a card listing the current auto insurance company and policy number covering the taxicab. Carrying and producing a state automobile registration card with current and correct insurance information shall be deemed to comply with this subsection.
